Director’s Message for 2008-2009
Dear MPCS Members and Friends,
Thanks to all of you who helped to make 2007-2008 a very successful and exciting season. With two exceptional programs this past year, “Christmas at the Rancho” and “Come Together, Change the World,” we are proud to fully embrace a new MPCS era. Our aim is to present choral performances that offer something fresh, entertaining, widely appealing, and completely unique on the Central Coast.
In the fall, we celebrated “Christmas at the Rancho” with Jeff Green at the helm as director. The Carmel Mission provided the perfect backdrop for this heart-warming concert embellished with story-telling and Californio flair. Once again, we were graced with the amazing sounds of the Salinas High School A Cappella Choir, directed by Dale Harrison.
We are still coming down from our high-energy and inspirational spring show "Come Together, Change the World,” my directorial debut. Member Brenda Putz helped us find our inner flower-child as we donned beads and bell-bottoms for the second half of the performance,
taking audiences back to peace and love in the 1960’s. Concert-goers and chorus members alike will never forget watching our version of the Beatles and Temptations ‘strut their stuff’ across our stage!
MPCS will enjoy another landmark season for 2008-2009. For our fall concert we will present a new take on some classic and lesser-known holiday folk songs of North America. We will cover a broad range of folk genres and musical styles featuring such songs as “Joy to the World,” “Rise Up Shepherd,” the gospel song “Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child, “and the very first North American carol, “Twas in the Moon of Wintertime.” In the spring we will celebrate “Broadway Love,” highlighting both classic and contemporary show tunes.
We are overjoyed to welcome back past and experienced members into our fold, and we are honored to be joined by new and talented singers and musicians each session. In addition to welcoming a new director and an increased and more diverse membership, MPCS will witness another exciting change this season: a new rehearsal day and venue. For returning and potential new members joining us in the fall, please note:
