Desma Johnson, Director
Desma Johnson is a native of Lakeland, Florida. She began her MPCS career as singer in the chorus under the direction of Linda Keill. Before assuming her present role as artistic director and conductor, she served as accompanist and assistant director between 2004-2007 under the direction of Jeffrey Green.
Ms. Johnson brings a wealth of experience to MPCS with skills as a high school chorus and church choir director, vocal coach, choreographer, and arranger of vocal and instrumental music. She received a Bachelor of Arts in music and Spanish at Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina. After graduation, she returned to Florida where she taught music and foreign language in Florida public schools. Her love of language-teaching brought her to the Monterey Institute of International Studies where she studied TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Currently, she works as pianist and choir director at St. Timothy Lutheran Church and teaches Spanish at Pacific Grove High School. She has also served as accompanist and musical director with several local theaters including Pacific Repertory Theatre, Western Stage, Forest Theater and the Wharf Theater.
